You Never Know

What do you want to be when you grow up?  All kinds of answers come to mind.  An astronaut, an architect, a lawyer, teacher, policeman, doctor, nurse…  What do you want to be when you grow up?  Living in an era where people live longer, familiar corporations no longer exist, economic challenges, and the internet explosion, what do you want to be when you grown up, is not a question for children only.  Today people can have more than one career, out of necessity or diversification.

The idea that there is a purpose to human life is not new.  Some have a cavalier attitude towards this idea.  As if somehow it will find them with no effort.  While others seem on a constant quest for the truth of their existence.  It seems that one’s life purpose should evolve naturally yet also be intentional.  What may appear to be a contradiction actually isn’t as things come together both “by accident” and on purpose.

So how did seven individuals come together to become the Lebanon 2012 team?   Was it their families, careers, hobbies, life experiences, geography, or purpose that brought them together?
Candice-registered nurse, teaches fitness, from Alabama, currently working in the Virgin Islands

Angelique-plays trombone, software development leader, enjoys photography
Connie-married, mother, masters in education, church staff

Mirick-works in the restaurant industry, enjoys sports & drama

Khenan – father of seven, hails from NY, tax accountant, a heart for youth

Valhalla-Georgia native, preschool teacher, counseling graduate student

Sarai – psychologist, raised in New York City and Puerto Rico, ran college track
With a 30 year age difference between them, male, female, single, married, divorced, Black, White, and Latino, there would seem to not be a lot in common with this group.  And in a church with thousands of members, most had never even met.  Each person’s unique background brought them to the team.  A team which is much larger than these seven.   Behind each are friends and family.  A team humbled that part of their purpose is to work with orphans and extremely needy children in Lebanon this summer.
